WiGLI Participates in the Integrated Territorial Approach Workshop to Strengthen Local Development Coordination

Walking in Grace for Lifelong Impact (WiGLI) participated in the Participatory Diagnostic and Collaborative Planning Workshop organized by Enabel, in collaboration with the Butanyerera Provincial Administration and Kirundo Commune, as part of the implementation of the Integrated Territorial Approach (ITA).

Held in Kirundo, the three-day workshop brought together local government authorities, technical departments, development partners, civil society organizations, and community stakeholders to strengthen territorial coordination and establish a shared vision for the sustainable development of Kirundo Commune.

Using the DIRO methodology, the Institutional Development and Organizational Strengthening Diagnostic, participants carried out a comprehensive territorial assessment designed to better understand the commune’s development context and identify strategic priorities for future interventions.

The participatory process focused on:

  • Assessing existing coordination mechanisms and institutional arrangements.
  • Identifying local strengths, available resources, and development opportunities.
  • Analyzing weaknesses, challenges, and coordination gaps.
  • Reviewing governance structures, coordination platforms, and existing operational manuals.
  • Promoting better coordination, rationalization of resources, and synergy among development actors.
  • Defining priority development actions, expected outcomes, and strategic interventions.
  • Developing a shared long-term vision for the sustainable development of Kirundo Commune by 2046.

Throughout the workshop, participants worked collaboratively to transform diverse perspectives into a common development agenda. The shared vision aims to position

Kirundo Commune as a coordinated, inclusive, resilient, and sustainably developed territory where institutions, communities, and partners work together to improve the well-being of the population.

WiGLI actively contributed to the technical discussions, collaborative planning exercises, and identification of priority actions. The workshop also provided an important opportunity to strengthen institutional relationships through exchanges with the representative of the Governor of Butanyerera Province and other local authorities, reinforcing WiGLI’s commitment to collaborative governance and local development.
