“Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been incredibly supportive in screening our children at the community level and encouraging us to seek medical care promptly. As a mother of five, three of my children were suffered from anemia, and CHWs guided me to a health facility where they received life-saving blood transfusions. When my four-year-old daughter, Itangakubuntu Benita, a recovered child from severe acute malnutrition at Gitaramuka Health center, became critically ill and urgently needed a transfusion to survive, two CHWs arranged an ambulance and accompanied me to the hospital. I left home with a child who was barely alive and returned with one who was healthy and healed.”
shares Donavina Ryezekare, 39, a mother of five, including Benita.
