Across Burundi, many children are forced to abandon school due to poverty, family crises, or unstable living conditions. For these children, dropping out often means losing hope, becoming idle, and facing the risk of exploitation or early labor.
WiGLI stepped in to restore dignity and opportunity. Through small business support, we provided out-of-school children with seed funds and guidance to start simple, income-generating activities such as selling vegetables, running small kiosks, or raising small livestock.
The change has been remarkable:
- Children who once felt forgotten are now earning income and helping meet their families’ needs.
- They are regaining self-worth and confidence, proving that they are not defined by their circumstances.
- Many have begun to dream again of returning to school, acquiring vocational skills, and building a brighter future.
This initiative is more than financial aid. It is a message to children that their lives matter, their potential is real, and with the right support, they can rewrite their stories.
